Nine bodies, three very different ways of shooting — so start with the workflow, not the price.

  • Interchangeable-lens cinema bodies: Sony's FX line (FX30, FX3, the FX2 Digital Cinema and the full-frame FX6) and the Canon EOS R5C. These suit drama, commercials and any shoot where the lens changes with the shot.
  • The Panasonic HC-X1500E and HC-X2000E handheld camcorders keep one zoom on the front: weddings, corporate events, conferences and live feeds, where long takes matter more than lens choice.
  • Sony's ZV pair is built for shooting yourself: the ZV-1F is a grab-and-go compact, while the ZV-E1 is a body that takes the glass you already own.
