Mount comes first, and the two here do not mix: Canon EF/EF-S or Nikon F. Sensor format comes second. APS-C bodies —EOS 4000D, 2000D, 90D, D7500— crop the field of view, so they stretch the reach of a telephoto and cost less: a first serious DSLR, wildlife, weekend sport. Full-frame bodies —EOS 6D Mark II, 5D Mark IV, D850, D6— cope better with high ISO, throw the background further out of focus and give a larger viewfinder: portrait, wedding, landscape, reportage.

Then it is body only or kit. Bodies suit anyone already holding EF or F glass; kits with 18-55, 18-135, 18-140 VR or 24-105 f/4L cover the everyday range without buying a lens separately. Eighteen models, €334 to €4,924.
