With Canon, start with the mount. RF is the mirrorless system of the EOS R bodies: full-frame models such as the EOS R5 Mark II and R6 Mark II, and APS-C bodies such as the EOS R7 and R100, which pair with the lighter RF-S lenses.

EF is the DSLR mount. EF lenses also work on EOS R bodies through the Canon Mount Adapter EF-EOS R, so existing glass is not wasted when moving to mirrorless. EF-S lenses are designed for APS-C sensors only.

For long telephoto work there is the RF 200-800mm; for events and portraits, the RF 70-200mm f/2.8L. PowerShot compacts round off the range for travel.
