32.5MP APS-C Camera with 8-Stop Stabilisation
Overview
The Canon EOS R7 is the fast APS-C body of the RF system: 32.5 megapixels, up to eight stops of in-body stabilisation and a 1.6x crop factor that turns every telephoto into a longer one. Supplied here with the RF-S 18-150mm f/3.5-6.3 IS STM, a single lens covering 29-240mm equivalent.
Key features
Sensor and processing
- 32.5MP APS-C CMOS sensor: 22.3 x 14.8 mm, the highest resolution Canon has put on an APS-C sensor.
- DIGIC X processor, the same family as the full-frame professional bodies.
- ISO 100-32000, expandable to H (51200).
Stabilisation and speed
- Up to 8 stops of in-body stabilisation depending on the lens; 7 stops with the RF-S 18-150mm supplied here.
- Mechanical shutter to 1/8000 s and electronic to 1/16000 s.
Autofocus
- Dual Pixel CMOS AF II: 100% coverage horizontally and vertically in automatic selection, with 651 zones and 5915 focusing positions for stills.
- Subject tracking: humans (eyes, face, head, body), animals (dogs, cats and birds) and vehicles (racing cars and motorcycles).
- Works down to EV -5.
Viewing
- 0.39in OLED viewfinder: 2.36 million dots, approx. 100% coverage and 1.15x magnification — unusually large for APS-C.
- Anti-flicker shooting: detects 100 Hz and 120 Hz lighting.

- 0.17 m closest focus at 18mm and 0.36x magnification at 35mm; 55 mm filter thread.
What it is good for
- Wildlife and sport: the 1.6x crop makes a 400mm behave like a 640mm, and the stabilisation holds it steady.
- Travel with one lens: 29-240mm equivalent covers almost everything.
- Anyone moving up from an EOS DSLR: the resolution and autofocus of a much more expensive body, in APS-C.
