24mm f/1.4 L Prime with an Iris Ring for Video
Overview
The Canon RF 24mm f/1.4 L VCM is a wide-angle L prime built for people who shoot stills and video with the same lens. It focuses with two motors — VCM for smooth pulls and Nano USM for speed — and adds a dedicated iris ring alongside the usual control ring, so aperture can be set by hand without stepping.
Key features
The optics
- 15 elements in 11 groups, with two UD elements and one GMo aspherical element to control aberration across a fast wide angle.
- 11-blade circular aperture: rounded highlights wide open and clean starbursts stopped down.
- 74° horizontal, 53° vertical, 84° diagonal on full frame.
Focusing
- VCM and Nano USM motors: a voice coil motor for smooth, quiet focus pulls, and Nano USM for fast acquisition on stills.
Controls
- Dedicated iris ring: aperture by hand, without clicks, which is what filmmaking needs.
- Control ring and custom button: assignable to ISO, exposure compensation or shutter speed.
