Rangefinder-Style APS-C Camera with 40.2MP and In-Body Stabilisation
Overview
The Fujifilm X-E5 puts the fifth-generation 40.2MP X-Trans sensor into the compact rangefinder-style body of the X-E line, and adds what that line never had: five-axis in-body image stabilisation. A machined aluminium top plate and a dedicated Film Simulation dial make it a camera you operate with your hands rather than through a menu.
Key features
Fifth-generation image quality
- 40.2MP X-Trans CMOS 5 HR sensor: a back-side illuminated APS-C sensor whose processing algorithm raises resolution without giving away signal-to-noise ratio.
- ISO 125 base sensitivity: the improved pixel structure makes ISO 125 the native setting, where on the previous model it was only available as an extended option.
- X-Processor 5: twice the processing speed of X-Processor 4, with AI subject recognition and HEIF output.
Stabilisation, for the first time in an X-E body
- 5-axis in-body image stabilisation: up to 7.0 stops in the centre of the frame and 6.0 stops at the periphery (CIPA 2024, pitch/yaw/roll, with the XF35mmF1.4 R fitted).
- Hand-held in low light: shutter speeds that used to need a tripod become realistic on a camera you carry every day.
Analogue controls
- New Film Simulation dial: with FS1, FS2 and FS3 positions, so you can store three of your own recipes and reach them without entering the menu.
- Machined aluminium top plate: carved from a single piece of metal and anodised, which also improves the feel of the dials.
- Classic Display mode: a clean viewfinder image with the key information gathered at the bottom of the frame.
- Surround View: the front control lever shows a semi-transparent area outside the frame, so you can see subjects before they enter it.
Autofocus
- Subject detection AF: built on deep-learning, it detects animals, birds, cars, motorcycles, bicycles, aeroplanes, trains, insects and drones.
- Improved prediction algorithm: the gains are most noticeable in Zone AF and on low-contrast subjects.
Colour
- 20 Film Simulation modes: including REALA ACE, ACROS, PROVIA, Velvia and ASTIA, built on ninety years of Fujifilm colour science.
