24.5MP Full-Frame Camera with Mechanical Dials
Overview
The Nikon Z f puts current flagship processing inside a body shaped like a 1980s FM2: milled metal dials for shutter speed, ISO and exposure compensation, and a brass-feeling top plate. Behind them sit a 24.5MP full-frame sensor and the EXPEED 7 engine — the same processor as the Z 9 and Z 8 — so the retro handling is not paid for in performance.
Key features
Sensor and processing
- 24.5MP full-frame BSI-CMOS sensor (25.28 million total pixels), FX format.
- EXPEED 7: ten times faster than the previous generation, and the same engine as the Z 9 and Z 8.
- ISO 100-64000 for stills, the widest range in the Z series, and ISO 100-51200 for video.
Autofocus
- Detection down to -10 EV: the AF works in light where the scene is barely visible (ISO 100, f/1.2 lens).
- Subject recognition for nine types: people, cats, dogs, birds, bicycles, motorbikes, cars, aircraft and trains, with 3D tracking.
- Eye-detection AF for stills and video.
Stabilisation and speed
- Up to 8 stops of in-body stabilisation: 5-axis image sensor shift, with lens shift available on VR lenses.
- Up to 30fps high-speed capture, plus Pre-Release Capture.
Handling and viewing
- Mechanical dials for shutter speed, ISO and exposure compensation, readable with the camera off.
- 0.5in Quad VGA OLED viewfinder, approx. 3.69 million dots.
- 3.2in vari-angle touchscreen, approx. 2.10 million dots.
- Film Grain: an in-camera grain and texture look, without editing afterwards.
Video
- Over two hours of 4K/60p in-camera, recorded as 10-bit H.265 in SDR, N-LOG or HLG.

What it is good for
- Anyone who misses film handling: the dials are real, and they read at a glance.
- Low light and night: -10 EV autofocus and 8 stops of stabilisation are a combination very few cameras offer.
- Street and documentary: unobtrusive, quiet, and quick enough at 30fps when the moment demands it.
