24mm f/2.8 Prime with 1:2 Close Focus for Sony E-mount
Overview
The Tamron 24mm f/2.8 Di III OSD M1:2 is one of three primes — 20mm, 24mm and 35mm — built to the same dimensions on purpose: 64 mm long, a 67 mm filter thread and a 1:2 maximum magnification on each. Swap between them and nothing about your rig has to change, which is the point of the set.
Key features
Half life-size close focus
- 1:2 maximum magnification ratio: half life size, from a minimum object distance of 0.12 m.
- Close-up on a wide angle: a wide field of view with the subject almost touching the front element gives a perspective a macro lens cannot.
Optics and build
- 10 elements in 9 groups.
- 84°04' diagonal angle of view on full frame.
- 7 rounded diaphragm blades, closing to f/22.
- OSD autofocus: Optimized Silent Drive, quiet enough for video.
- Moisture-resistant construction with a fluorine coating on the front element.
The shared body
- 64 mm long and 215 g: small enough that the camera stays the size of the camera.
- 67 mm filter thread, shared with the other two primes and with the Tamron zooms — one set of filters for the whole system.

What it is good for
- Close-up with context: 1:2 at a wide angle keeps the surroundings in the frame instead of erasing them.
- Travel and everyday: a small, light prime that does two jobs.
- Building a set: three primes that share filters, size and handling.
